Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a typical move take?

There’s no such thing as a typical move. Every move is a unique experience based upon the number of people, equipment and supplies that are scheduled for relocation. MMR will work to perform all moves in a speedy and timely fashion by providing the tools and the contacts for a seamless and rapid relocation.

Should we assemble a move committee? If so, who should comprise its members?

Yes, the move committee should include individuals from facilities, IT, phones, end users from each department.

Is MMR insured?

While MMR plans meticulously and makes every provision for flawless moves, sometimes damages occur despite everyone’s best efforts. Our practice is to see that every move is insured and each of our subcontractors carries the appropriate insurance coverage.

What is a Move Captain?

MMR suggests that each agency, department or company assign a Move Captain. That person will serve as the lead representative for your move and will be the person who MMR interacts with.

Does MMR handle moving and installations?

No. We are move managers. That means that we assemble the necessary team to make your move a success.

Why not use an internal project manager?

Internal project managers work well for internal tasks. But, office relocations are very complex processes and can be very confusing if you are unfamiliar with the moving industry. In the end, hiring MMR will save you time, headaches and money.

I can pack my personal office. But, who will be responsible for common areas?

Your Department Captain will need to assign co-workers to pack all common areas. (kitchen, storage closets, copy rooms, fax and printers, etc.)

What should I do with my boxes once I’ve unpacked them?

After you unpack, all the boxes should be taken to a staging area determined by your Department Captain.

What about items lost during the move?

On rare occasions, despite everyone’s best efforts, items may become misplaced. We advise our clients to assign a specific area for lost and found items. Generally, most unaccounted for items can be found there.

My desk is on the left side of the office. I’d prefer the right side. Is it okay if I move my furniture to accommodate my preference?

Please do not move your office furniture once it has been placed in your new office. It has been strategically placed for electrical and data hook ups. If you have a preference, please advise your Department Captain or Move Captain ahead of the move so that we may accommodate your needs and wishes.
